Shazia
Shazia and Pireh are a mother-daughter duo from a large extended family of musicians. Pireh is currently a composer, exploring themes of anxiety, love, loss, and healing in her music. She has worked with musical communities of all shapes and sizes, including but not limited to choirs, orchestras, jugalbandi, and various percussion circles. Shazia is primarily a doctor and community health researcher who drums for pleasure. She has been playing the dhol since before Pireh was even born! We all hold music in our hearts, our souls, our bodies, and our breath. Together, we invite you to honor, embody, and celebrate those rhythms that we, as women, have carried with us always.
Sunday 5th March
Drum Circle led by Shazia Moosa and Pireh Moosa
Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves.
