Mehlab Jameel is a Lahore-based researcher and community educator working to promote and protect the human rights of minorities in Pakistan. She has worked on issues of gender justice in public policy for the past six years. Her research focus is positioned at the intersection of feminist and queer theory and she takes a keen interest in cultural politics of gender and sexuality in postcolonial contexts. She has also co-led various advocacy ventures for developing gender-sensitive policies in Pakistan, including co-drafting and lobbying the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018 and provincial policies on the rights of transgender people in Pakistan. Although her work regularly involves building the capacity of human rights activists and organizations on issues of gender and sexuality, gender-based violence and gender-sensitive human rights reporting, her core passion remains working with grassroots groups on issues of sustainable movement building.
