Rasti Farooq

Rasti Farooq is a writer, actor. and producer from Lahore who has been involved with Lahore’s pioneering animation studio Puffball’s award- winning films like ‘Shehr e Tabassum’ (2020)’, ‘Swipe (Annecy Animation Festival 2020),’ ‘Seabirds’ (Mubi 2024), as well as their upcoming historical horror film, ‘HIDE’, releasing summer 2026. She has scripted and voiced over a hundred animated films and videos on decolonial histories, civic consciousness, political education, gender and power and intersectional justice education. Distinct from the form and register of this body of work, she is presently writing her first solo fictional series, an autopsy of the modern middle class Pakistani family.

Rasti is also a film and theater actor, having starred in the upcoming ‘Lali’ (Berlinale 2026) dir. By Sarmad Khoosat; ‘Joyland’ (2022) dir. by Saim Sadiq, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival and Best International Feature at the Independent Spirit Awards, ‘Permanent Guest’ (TIFF 2025) dir by Sana Jafri, ‘Time After Time’ (2025), and ‘May I Have This Seat?’ (2020), dir. By Tabish Habib, ‘Gidh’ (2021) dir. by Kanwal Khoosat, and ‘Both Sit In Silence For A While’ (2022/2023), dir. by Ali Junejo, which was translated into Dutch and performed by Studio Antigone in the Netherlands in 2023.

In Lahore, 26-year-old Fatin and her mother Yasmeen are preparing for a neighborhood wedding when their plans are disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Shabeer, Fatin’s 70-year-old uncle. Fatin is uncomfortable with Shabeer’s visit, but her parents expect her to care for him, including driving him to his hospital appointments. Tensions arise during their interactions, and Fatin struggles to balance her duty to her family with the weight of an unspoken history.
