Maria Umar

Maria Umar is a pioneer in empowering Pakistani women through technology as the founderand president of the Women’s Digital League (WDL)—Pakistan’s first fully virtual platform dedicated to providing digital training and employment opportunities for women. Recognized as an Ashoka Changemaker, Maria’s innovative approach to digital empowerment has received significant attention. Under her leadership, WDL has received accolades including the Early Stage Award in Changemaker’s ‘Women Powering Work’ competition. The platform was spotlighted in a Google Pakistan online campaign that highlighted its groundbreaking use of technology. Maria has worked as a Gender and Inclusion Specialist at various fintech companies, contributing to efforts that promote financial inclusion. Her expertise and dedication to gender equality were further acknowledged when Melinda French Gates invited her to a fireside chat at the Singapore Tech Festival, celebrating her remarkable contributions to the field.
