
Mahera Omer
Mahera Omar is a Pakistani filmmaker and environmental advocate known for her documentaries addressing social, urban, and environmental issues. She co-founded the Pakistan Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), which promotes biodiversity conservation and compassionate treatment of animals. Her film, Sometimes Even the Shore Drowns, explores Karachi’s coastal ecosystem and won a special mention at the 5th Nepal Cultural International Film Festival in 2024. Her film was inspired by Rachel Carson’s The Edge of the Sea, which highlights environmental degradation caused by urbanisation and activities along Karachi's shoreline. Her documentaries have been showcased globally, such as at the Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival and Film South Asia. She is currently working on projects addressing air pollution and Karachi’s biodiversity.
