Playground Connections: School as a Site of Friendship and Community

    Location: Hall 2

Before girls discover how much the world is male dominated they find the love that supports them when coming into their personhood:their friends, their support group, their lifelines. The people who facilitate these journeys of girlhood are the teachers who first help them discover their talents and who hone their life paths. Teachers need community too and the staffroom becomes a place of refuge as teachers share their hopes, dreams and fears for each other and for their students. The playground and the staffroom are both oases where lifelong friendships, making school a refuge for both blossoming girls and teachers in this noble profession.
